Watering & Feeding My Puppy & General Commands

Question
I adopted a mini poo about a week ago.  She is 3 1/2 months old and weighs 3.5 lbs.  I have been house training her and she is doing pretty well.  My first question is:  should I leave a bowl full of water down always?  I know it may sound like a crazy question.  I know dogs need fresh water always, but I am asking because she is drinking constantly and then has to pee constantly.  Also, I have been feeding her about 3/4-1 cup of food a day.  I don't give it to her all at once, but in the morning and the after noon.  What do you recommend?  One more question...my puppy is due one more set of shots until she is a year old.  What do you think about buying the shot medicine from my local farm supply and giving it to her myself?  Do you think they are just as effective?

Answer
While puppies do need water, some of them will drink far more than they need if given unlimited amounts.  I would take the water up at bed time.  It won't hurt anything to let her go an hour or 2 between drinking through the day either.

Many puppies come from the breeder to heavy.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. I don't think you would save enough over a vet visit to be worth it.  When she is in for shots is a good time to talk about her body condition, flea and heartworm remedies, and other questions you may have.
