QuestionMy miniature poodle is 15 weeks and stands 12.5 inches and weighs about 14 pounds.is that normal?
AnswerHello Nicole,
Your Poodle should continue to grow until he/she is around 9 months old, then he/she should fill out some. The height and weight now will depend on how much your pup is eating, playing and will have to do with genetics. His/her size sounds about right for a Miniature Poodle puppy, but doesn't have alot to do with what his/her size will be at maturity. The average size for a Miniature Poodle is anything over 10" at the shoulder and not to go over 14" at the shoulder; and weigh around 15-25 lbs.
That being said, it will depend on what is in your Poodle's background as to how big or small he/she will be. Some breeders will breed a Miniature Poodle to a Standard Poodle, so they can get both Standards and Miniatures. Same with the Toy Breeders, they will Breed a Toy Poodle to a Miniature so they can get some of both types. When this happens, you end up with Large Toy Poodles/Small Miniatures, Large Miniatures/Small Standards, and you never know what you are going to get.
You can e-mail me pics of your puppy and I can take a look at him/her. Take a standing picture and take it around something familiar so I can get an idea of how tall he/she is. Also, Males tend to be larger than females, so that will make a difference.
Your puppys growth should slow around 5 months, then he/she will have a growth spurt and will slow again around 7 months, and by 9 months, he/she should have his/her full height.
I hope this helps you some. If you have other questions about this or other Poodle questions in general, please feel free to ask me.
