Question
We just adopted a 8 week old golden retriever from are local animal shelter, we are not sure what Shiloh has been through but she is terrified of us and our kids, anytime anyone walks into the room she runs and hides,I have tried sitting on the floor with her and try to comfort her and show her its ok but she balls up in a ball. We have now had her for 4 days and we are still having problems getting her to eat, we have tried hand feeding her, and we have tried just leaving her alone for a while by herself with her food nothing seems to work, she is just so scared. Shiloh has a appt. tom. with the vet and we are praying everything is going to be ok there. Please help us we don't know what else to do.

Answer
At 8 weeks you have a good chance of correcting this.  Later it could be impossible.  Don't force your self on her, and have the kids keep calm and avoid sudden movements.  Be happy and vocal and interact with each other.  Have them keep their hands away from her head.

Go ahead and let her eat by herself.  A few days of light eating won't hurt anything.
