Chronic Soft Stools

Question
We have a 6 yo/male/neutered labrador retriever.  He is wonderful, energetic and does everything normal.  He started on Cephalexin-500 mg for lacerated paw, then continued for skin allergy.  We stopped after two weeks.  Then one day he had tremendous runny, mucousy, bloody stool.  Took to vet immediately, ran check for parasites and Giardia.  Neither were found.  He was put on Hydroxyzine-50 mg.  Just finished last Friday.  His stool is still soft, he is loosing weight, but still active and acting normal.  Please, should I take him back to vet for blood tests?  Still feeding him rice and hamburger.  Thank you so much for your help.  Distressed and wanting the best for our guy.  Kelly

Answer
I will leave most of the medical issues to your vet.  They are clearly outside my knowledge.  Keep working with him.  Yes I would go back and give the vet more time to work.

Would he eat more if you offered it?  The vet may have given you a guideline. but your dog may need more.  if so, go ahead and give it to him.
