getting along with small dogs

Question
I am getting a husky puppy and 2 weeks and I already have a 2 year old lab and cocker spaniel mix and a 1 year old malte-poo.  I know they say that huskies do very well with other dogs and so I was just making sure that she will do ok with small dogs.

Answer
Hi Josh,

It all depends on the dog.  Huskies aren't recommended to be around any small animals (cats, dogs, hamsters, etc).  Huskies have a strong prey drive.  When you get a huskies puppy they should learn not to attack the small dogs, since they are going up in the household with the dog. Just makes sure you get a puppy that is young enough (less then 6 months) to learn not attack the small dog as prey.

My first husky was around small breed dogs when he was a puppy and did just fine as he grew older. He never wanted to attack the smaller dogs.  My husky I have now is around cats and does just fine. Like I said it all depends on the dog.

Huskies do like to play and they sometimes play rough.  So I would just watch how rough the husky is playing with your other dogs.  If you see any sign of aggression from your husky towards the other dogs then I would be worried.  Huskies are packed dogs and love to be around other dogs so I don't think you should have a problem, but just be aware that you might have a chance of something going wrong.

I hope this helps.  If you have anymore questions please ask.  Good Luck.

Thanks,
Laura
