Question
My Female Siberian Just had her first birthday on April 17th of this year.  I had purchased a male companion for her about 9 weeks ago and he is now 35 lbs already.  I did purchase these dogs through a reputable breeder having all of the proper registered paperwork.  My main concerns with regard to my male pup (Damon) are that he has a bit of a more thick, short snout as compared to his female counterpart (Allia), as well as having a thick, smooth, yet shorter wirier looking coat - and while his tail has the coloring of a Siberian's - it does not have any curl to it, as well as having a much longer white tip than that of my one-year old female.  Is all this still within pure-breed limits?  If so, is there a certain age as to when I should notice tail, coat and muzzle changes?

Thank you for your time!

Answer
There can be a great difference in the breed from dog to dog, and just because the dog comes from a registered breeder does not in and of itself mean that you have Siberians that meet the SHCA standards.  The coat does not seem to be an issue at all, as I have two dogs that share the same father, yet have drastically different coats - all within the normal expectation of a Siberian.  The muzzle is impossible to tell by description, but longer and shorter snouts are all a part of the breed.  Siberian coat colors are not regulated at all by the breed standard, and any coat color is acceptable - so any issue with the tail is personal comsmetic preference.  As for the curl, the tail should be expressive, but there is no requirement for tail curl as their might be for the Shiba Inu or such.  Some Sibe tails are quite straight, others curl quite a bit more.  Generally however, the tail should curl over the back when held erect, and this sometimes takes a year or so to develop in a dog.
