Question
Hello,

I recently just adopted a 7 month old fixed female husky.  I currently have a 2 yr old unfixed female husky that I have had since she was a puppy.  The 2 yr old was raised with two other smaller dogs (poms) so she has no problem with other smaller dogs.  We just brought the new puppy home today, we let her outside with our other dog and the older seemed reluctant to interact with the puppy.  After a few minutes we brought them inside where a few moments later they were at each other's throats.  I put the puppy in a cage we have and sat next to it with the older dog.  The older dog just layed there next to the cage while the puppy curled her lips, showed her teeth, braked, growled, and starting pushing and jumping at the cage to get to the older dog.  What can I do to make their interactions better and not kill one another?  I would hate to have to get rid of the puppy.  Thanks.

Answer
The 7 month old needs to learn her place. Keep a collar an leash on her at all times (when she is out an supervised). The pup is trying to be the alpha to a female that is already the established alpha. When she is doing this in the cage have a spray bottle of vinegar water. When she acts up give her a spray, she might yip but it is only because she doesn't like the smell. Your going to want to take a good gets good and bad gets bad approach. If she can learn to ignore the older dog or at least be in the same room with without growling give her a treat. If she growls the spray bottle will be your best friend. You won't get bit that way. If she doesn't react to the spray bottle grab the leash she should be dragging, again you don't want to get bit. It hurts quite a bit. I got nailed in a dog fight before and I was dumb and grabbed a collar, it was 3 in the morning and I wasn't with it.
Just always remember you run the house the dogs are just your kids lol.
If you have any further Q's please ask.
