Question
Hi
My little husky is just over 3 months old and I have read up about feeding her raw meat. She is on biscuit that is wet down and pedigree puppy pouches. It is the only thing that doesn't upset her tummy. I have tried her on so much but it just goes straight through her. I know puppies should be hungry but we feed her what the food tells us on the packaging but she is always hungry!!
What do you think the best food is to feed her or if it is raw meat what are the guidelines?!
She is being fed 3 times a day at the moment and when she is 6 months she goes down to twice a day but I don't know when you move down to just once a day?!
Any help would be much appreciated as I know Huskies have very sensitive stomachs and I do not want to do it wrong!!

Thank you

Stevie

Answer
You never feed a puppy raw meat. They don't have an immune system good enough for it till they are over a year old.
You might want to try adding vitamins (I highly suggest Missing Link with glucosamine). You may be feeding a food lacking in sufficient nutrients and/or not appropriate for your particular dog. When a dog is fed low-quality and/or inappropriate dog food, he feels compelled to eat more of it in an attempt to satisfy his body's craving for nutrients. As a result, the dog is ingesting excess food, and a large proportion of the food goes through his digestive system undigested.
To start your pup on a food it sounds like you should try a bland diet for a while. This is rice boiled with ground beef no seasonings. He will get this for the regular feedings, also a dessert, Plain yogurt, no flavoring. This has acidophilus in it which is a digestive aid. This diet is designed to increase good bacteria in the GI tract and subtract the production of mucus in the intestine which causes the runs. Once you have had her on this diet for 2 weeks add fish oil (it come in vitamins caplets, mine eat them as is and think they are treats) and brewers yeast.
Wait another week and start mixing in a dog food. One that DOES NOT contain, soy, corn, wheat or beat juice (these upset a Siberian stomach). You will have to go to a pet food store to obtain one that meets this criteria. Eventually wean your pup off of the beef and rice. It would be in your best interest to keep adding the vitamins, yogurt, fish oil and brewers yeast... that is unless the food contains a good amount of these things.
Then you dog is over a year old you can come back and ask me about a raw diet. Because you have to add a lot of odds and ends to the raw meat to make it a balanced diet. Like sesame seeds for calcium and such.
If you need me to exsplaine something further please ask!
