Golden Retriever storm reaction

Hello, my dog Wally (6-yr. old Golden Rtrvr.)his nose on the ground.  He does this continuously and causes the top of his nose to bleed and makes marks on the ground.  Also if he is locked up in his kennel he will do the same thing like he is trying to dig himself out.  I can't figure it out and it can be some what of a problem.  Your thoughts???

At least winter and fewer thunder storms is setting in.  If this is something new, it could be from a close strike sometime when he was home by himself.  By spring, he could be back to himself.  If not, perhaps talk to the vet about medication for it.
