Digging Holes

Question
hi
Please help, I am at my wits end with my youngest Golden Retriever Amba. She is 1 of 3 Golden Retrievers that we own and she is only 16mths old, the problem is i cannot get her to stop digging big holes. I have tried pepper, Naphalene flakes and disaplining her but nothing seems to work. I can't see how she can be bored as she plays very well with the other 2 dogs and has heaps of toys. She is totally wrecking my yard which is 3/4 of an acre so she has heaps of property to run around. We play ball with her every afternoon and also take her for walks at night. Please advise me on how to get her to stop digging holes.
Regards
Leeanne

Answer
The best answers come from people that have successful experience with many dogs.  It sounds like you have seen most of the same advice as I have on this subject.  None of it ever sounded to me like it would work on all dogs.  I am afraid some dogs are impossible to give enough stimulation and exercise to, to keep them from digging holes when left alone all day.  It is likely the older dogs are less interested in playing than she is, leaving her to occupy herself much of the day.  My back yard took a big hit last summer every time our friends' puppy visited.  That gave 2 young dogs a chance to enjoy playing together in a fenced yard.  It was terrible.

Forget discipline.  If you catch a dog in the act, you can use discipline to teach it not to do it when you are around.  It won't stop most dogs when you aren't around.

I don't have a good answer, and don't think there is one.
