Question
My 6 month old golden retreiver goes to pee in the bathroom but pottys in the main hall(if we are lucky we manage to place a newspaper under before she squats). I failed in persuading her to use the bathroom after placing old clothes smelling of her potty. I tried taking her to the road.(I know should have taken her long back). She even pottied once but she seems too scared of the traffic I guess and pulls me back. Now she is back to pottying in the hall. She is even scared of elevators. She likes to play on the playground in our apartment complex and sometimes pottys which is very embarassing as I have to pick it up. I need ur help. Will she outgrow this fear of traffic? Will i have to pick up potty from the hall for ever. Apart from this problem she is an angel, well behaved.

Answer
Just what reasoning dogs use in deciding where to potty is hard to say.  You might try using more newspaper in the bathroom so she can pee and potty on different ones.

Cleaning up after it is part of having a dog.  No need to be embarrassed about it.  Letting her use the playground could be the best solution.  A healthy dog eating a proper diet will fairly firm stools.  You can easily clean them up by putting a plastic bag over your hand and picking them up.  Then turn the bag inside out and tie it shut.  I long used that when away from home, and have decided it is the easiest way to clean up the yard.

I doubt she will grow out of her fear of traffic.  Puppies exposed to it before 12 weeks old usually do fine.  Those not exposed to it until later may never accept it.
