golden eating socks

Question
My 5 month old golden retiever ate a child size sock a few days ago(whole)and I thought it would pass in his stool but it has not. Do you know how long it could be in his system before it should pass, and is it too late to try to make him throw it up? (using Ipecac or Hydrogen Peroxide)
Thanks

Answer
I don't see it hurting much to try.  I know of a couple of incidences of Goldens just drinking the peroxide down.  Start with a table spoon, and if nothing happens, another in 20 minutes.  If the sock doesn't come up, continue to keep a eye on him.  As long as he is eating normally and having regularly bowel movements, it shouldn't be a problem.

Today I threatened to put our Lab in the washer to see if she could find all the missing socks.
