Question
At 2 months old what are the guidelines on taking them out for walks? Are there certain things i shoud be careful with? Certain places I shouldnt go? There was a web site that said that pups shouldnt be taken outside too often because they are too small that they can catch any tipe of sickness. Is that true. It is my first time as a pet owner and i am tryin to raise a good healthy happy dog so if you can also provide me with some first time dog owners guidelines i would be very thankful.

Answer
This is a very tricky matter.  One sniff, at the wrong time, where a sick dog relieved itself in the last 6 months and your puppy has parvo and may die.  Even the best shot programs leave a window where the puppy is vulnerable to parvo and other problems.  See http://www.avma.org/communications/brochures/canine_parvo/parvo_brochure.asp

A puppy that doesn't get out around strangers, children, traffic, noise, and continuing exposure to other dogs before it is 12 WEEKS old may fear them all its life.  So you must take your puppy out.  Public parks and landscaped areas of apartment complexes can be bad.  Even your own back yard isn't safe if it is frequented by unknown stray dogs.  A good place to go is a friends house with dogs and children.  Downtown areas often have enough traffic to keep down loose dogs.  Never take a young puppy to places like Petsmart.
