lifts paw when guest arrive and claws them

Question
We have a 6 yr old rescued female spayed Golden. House dog/doggie door. Always with us. No kids.  Very sweet doesn't bark ,dig etc., but when guests arrive, females more then men, she lifts her paws and "claws" them for attention, more so when we're talking/in conversation.  We have tried, and still use "shake" cans from our training class, but don't always have them around, plus gets a bit much at a dinner party. We are able to turn our backs to ignore her,saw that from the Dog Whisperer guy, that works, but to tell my guests to turn their backs is embarrasing.  She is a beautiful dog and has good behavior everywhere else but we can't curb this problem. Does not seem to get better as she is getting older, and the paw scratches hurt! We are dedicated to following through on this issue, but we don't want to do paw pinching or knee thrusts etc  Thanks for your time/assistence

Answer
Don't allow her to approach guests or even you.  Down stay her and let the guest approach her.  If she breaks stay, have the person step back.  Be very careful to use the shake cans the instant she needs corrected.  timing is everything in correcting a dog.  That is part of the reason I use a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!''.  I am always ready with it at the instant I need it.
