Hi there, i thought i could ask this as it is probably very similiar to a retriever...i am just curious on how much weight a yellow lab puppy should be gaining....our puppy is 3 months and she gained almost 10 lbs in 4 1/2 weeks..is this too much????  I cant seem to find my answer anywhere...thx

That sounds like too much unless it is very large.  I think my vet has said something about 3 pounds in 2 weeks.  He is a paranoid having us in every 2 weeks for parvo shots.  

What I really go by is the puppy's body condition.  See http://www.puppychow.com/products/popup_body_condition.aspx  Adjust the puppy's food to where it approaches its ideal body condition.  For a puppy less than 3 months, I wouldn't go below a half cup each of 3 meals.  Overweight is very hard on developing joints, but you don't want to short the puppy of the nutrients it needs besides the calories from its fat.  Have your vet confirm your judgement of his condition next visit.

Oh, and switch to an adult chow in another month.  That slows growth again protecting developing joints, very important along with keeping the puppy lean.
