Boxer cardiomyopathy

Question
I have a two and one half year old boxer who just this week was diagnosed with early stage cardiomyopathy.  Do you know how long a life expectancy is?  The vet would not go there.  Any info no matter how hard to hear will help us prepare.  She is on enalapril, a drug for congestive heart failure.

I am a Boxer/ Bulldog Hi Pam - glad that they got the Diagnosis of Cardiomyopathy early!  That is a plus for your boxer kid.... Very young to have this so much be genetic.  Your vet has given you a good drug for the heart and a water pill for the CHF?  Was it lasix for the CHF?

Anyway, with good loving care and good foods and supplements - your Boxer can live a good long life.  HOW long is unknown....But, you sure do have a good chance for a productive life.

The key is to stay on the Enalapril and Lasix ( or water pill), see your vet for blood work often, and keep your dog's weight down.
A lean doggie will live much longer than one that has too much fat.
Also, with the CHF they tend to gain water weight.  YOU must stay on track with the medications ordered by the vet.
