Question
I'm adopting a lab/golden mix from a shelter. My only problem is he sheds quite badly. And my husband had had an allergy problem in the past with animals. Is there any way to minimize shedding? I hate to leave this darling dog in the shelter but I don't want my husband to suffer either. Any tips? Thanks!

Answer
Donna,

There are a few things you can do:

1. Bathe the pup at least twice a week. Brush before and after to collect hair.

2. Brush entire coat morning and then again before bedtime.

3. Be sure the brush you are using is designed for a golden.

4. Ask your vet or local pet store about oils used in the pup's food to minimise shedding. You will especially need it during the dry, winter months.

5. Your husband can take allergy tablets over-the-counter or by prescription to help with dander allergies.

Once you get into a routine, it will be a snap!

Hope this helps!
