10 Month Old Housebreaking Problems

Question
I have a wonderfully tempermented, crate trained golden.  She does fine going potty when taken outside.  I give the "go potty" command and she does her business.  Lately she has begun going in my upstairs hallway and in my daughter's bedroom.  I put her out frequently, but she has started doing this on a daily basis.  She is crated at night and when nobody is home.  She was spayed at 6 months old.  Any ideas?

Answer
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/  As she matured, she decided she is big enough to challenge your status.  One way to do this is to mark in the house.  Spaying should have helped, but it is no cure all.  For the time being, she must be in the crate or outside anytime nobody can watch her.  You can use closed doors or gates to keep her in the same room with you.  Some people even leash the dog to them.
