Question
I am devoted to my 6 yr. old Golden and 8 yr. old Golden+Chow female dogs.  I take them on walks every day, we play fetch, etc. and the Golden seems to never have enough of my attention. She scratches my hand for me to rub her and scratch her back (which is usually itchy) and if I dare close my eyes for a nap, she'll start to whine on my face.  She has plenty of toys. I even buy her a new one every week, but it seems that she wants only me to entertain her.  She is very lazy since she weighs 90 lbs. (and always on a diet) and maybe that's why she is uninterested in people approaching the house or other dogs roaming around the back yard, opposite to my other dog.
I love this dog very much but I am very annoyed
by this habit and at the same time feel sad to see her always bored.
Is there a solution?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer
I am afraid that is the way Goldens are.  I spent quite a while last night with my friends' Golden sitting in my lap petting him.  He is a really nice dog, content to have you pet him and never trying to lick your face.  He will nuzzle under your elbow if you quit petting hem long enough to turn a page in what you are reading.  He is 12, and I may not have too much longer to pet him.

You might be able to distract her with a Kong filled with peanut butter.  It takes dogs a long time to lick it out, even longer if you freeze it.  For the over weight dog, it down not add too many calories, and can be compensated for by only reducing her food slightly.  Stay on top of her weight.  It does shorten their lives and causes joint problems.
