Question
Just noticed what appears to be a boil on the bottom left jaw. She hasn't eaten today, she has taken water.  I cut away about 3" x 3" of matted fur and it stank, there is puss.  We're taking her to the vet tomorrow, wondering if there is something we can give her to relieve pain, make her more comfortable.

Answer
A regular aspirin tablet, or better yet, a buffered aspirin would ease the pain.  I seldom suggest giving a dog anything other than directed by a vet, but to get her through the night, it should be OK.  A regular tablet is 325 mg, right for a 65 pound dog.  Don't give her any of the newer stuff.
