anal gland issue NuVet Plus ; metamucil cookies for dogs;

Question
QUESTION: Hello!
We have a 1 year old Golden who has a bit of an anal gland issue. Over the last year her glands have been expressed 4-5 times (by the vet). She has been on pumpkin (doesnt care for it), she eats Natural Balance Potato and Duck food, walks every day, and is otherwise a very healthy, happy pup.
She just had the glands expressed a few days ago and now the vet is recommending Metamucil (1/2tsp twice a day) - and she put her on Doxycycline in case there is an underlying infection (sure hope not).
My question: Is there anything else I can do to either prevent this gland issue, or at least decrease the number of times she has to have them expressed?

ANSWER: Yes - How about adding a few supplements to her diet.  By-the-way, Metamucil makes a great cookie - give her 1 cookie per day - long term - they come in 2 packs and just give 1 of the 2 pack ( apple flavored) -

The food is fine but you need a few other things:

SEE if you can get 1/2 can of green beans into her each day - you can cook them with a little bit of olive oil and add a dash of garlic powder ---- YUM YUM

Next, yes - get 1 full metamucil cookie into her per day ....
*****LATER on, you may be able to go to just 1/2 a cookie per day

If she doesn't like the pumpkin how about some Yams - cut them up ( after they have been cooked ) and add a little ( a few dashes ) of brown sugar ..... OH- so good!

Last - I would love to see her on the NuVET plus program - it is a natural supplement that aides in digestion and helps to reduce any inflammation and prevent anal gland troubles.

My question: If I give Hannah 1 Metamucil cookie per day, I am assuming I STOP the 1/2 tsp of Metamucil in her food?
