QuestionWill there be a problem by nature having 2 female golden retrievers growing up together. Is there any thing I should know and prepare for because I have 2 female golden retriever puppies growing up together. We got them at 8 weeks old. They are now 6 months old. They get along now. I just recently read that two females may not be a good idea. Now I am worried if this applies to golden. Thank you for your help.
AnswerTwo females is the combination most likely to be a problem. If both have a high drive for dominance, you could have trouble as they reach maturity at 3 years. Spaying both will help.
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
