Question
My golden retriever puppy weighs 16.5 pounds at 10 weeks old. He was the largest of his litter. I have been feeding him 1/2 a cup of dry dog food 3 times a day. I recently bought Innova large puppy food that says he should be eating 3 7/8 cups of their food per day. Is that too much food? Is he over weight?

Answer
Puppy growth chart for Retriever;
Hi Savannah,  Well, Best wishes on the new puppy.  The Innova is a very good food!  Glad you choose such a good food for your puppy.  Please talk to your Vet about your pup's target weight for his age.  Males are always larger than females ( WEll, Almost)
The amount to feed is just a suggestion from the pet food company.  You don't have to follow it as an exact amount to feed.

According to this chart, your baby is slightly large... ( only the Vet can tell you if this baby is overweight at this time:)

Golden Retriever Puppy Weight Chart

7 wks. - 8-10 lbs. 9 wks. - 10-14 lbs. 12 wks. - 15-17 lbs. 16 wks. - 25-26 lbs. 20 wks. - 32-43 lbs. 6 mos. - 40-50 lbs. 12 mos. - 65-70 for males and 55-60 for females 2 yrs. - 55-68 females and 65-80 males.

It is this weight chart that most veterinarians use in their office, for reference on puppy development.

Please take him in for a Well check up.  You may need to exercise this pup a little more.
Ball and fetch.  You will have to train him to play fetch.

Best wishes and Happy New Year
