Question
I`M KIND OF A BUSY PERSON AND I`M KEEPING MY GOLDEN RETRIVER PUPPY IN THE GARDEN I DONT LET HER TO ENTER MY  HOME & I HAVE TO GO OUT TO PLAY WITH HER ,SO I WANT TO KNOW HOW MANY HOURS SHOULD I SPEND DAILY WITH HER?

Answer
Hi, Rania,

Unfortunately, most dogs, especially people-oriented dogs like golden retrievers, need the companionship of their people.  Dogs are "pack" animals, such as wolves, foxes, etc.  They are happiest and most secure when they have others around them.  When they are alone or isolated, they can become lonely, depressed, destructive.

If a dog is the only dog in a family, it thinks of it's family or person as its "pack."  Your dog will want to be with you, and as the dog gets older, may begin to exhibit behaviors you are not happy with, such as digging, barking, chewing in your yard or garden.

Since you state you are a busy person, I fear a golden retriever may not have been the best choice.  There are breeds that can adapt to being alone better than the golden, but as I say above, all are happier, and will demonstrate less destructive behavior, if they are included as part of the family.

As far as your question about how much time you should spend with her, golden retrievers are "sporting" breeds and in general have quite a bit of energy.  The dog will need several periods of play or exercise each day.

In the event you are willing to consider having your dog live inside with you, I have included some documents:
