Not sure what to do

Question
I have a golden who is 13 years old.  About a year ago, we noticed a lump right and the base of his tail.  It grew and of course we took him to the vet.  We were told that usually, the tail would be taken, but due to his age, he wouldn't survive the surgery.  Since, the tumor has broken open, and stays fresh, and expels fluid constantly.  He has been on two rounds of antibiotics to keep it from getting infected.  a new problem came about a month ago, in that he is now bleeding from his nose.  It drips constantly.  Should I assume this is cancer and give him peace?  I just don't know what to do, and it seems I don't get a solid answer from my vet.  I don't want my Duncan to suffer needlessly.  The thing is, he still eats, and takes himself outside to go to the bathroom - so I don't know what to think.

Answer
Yes, it may be time, but perhaps not.  Maybe talk to another vet.  Ours successfully removed a huge abdominal tumor from our Lab at 12.  We had another treasured 3 years with her before another fast growing tumor came.  Then I know it was time with some of her other problems.  Although a frail old dog, she still enjoyed her walks and swims that summer I knew would be her last.

If a vet can allow Duncan to continue to enjoy life, do it.  My bottom line is if the dog is able to enjoy life.
