Questionwe have a 4 month old male sheperd...he is being raised on a farm with 2 other older mixed breed dogs that help him in the training of his boundary limits. He is a very loyal and smart pup that is very willing to listen to commands. Guess my question is...i really dont wanna have him fixed. My first shepherd by the way....Is it a necessary or a necessity? Excellant behavior.....can he be trained to not roam?
AnswerSome dogs are prone to roam, and training will do little good. I wouldn't count on any given dog not roaming training on no training.
If unneutered, you can count on him being off anytime a female comes in season for miles upwind. You can't count on him coming back. For all but a select few in serious breeding programs, the only responsible thing is to neuter them.
