Question
I have 2 male shepherds. Non neutered, 1 is 6 the other is 3. The 3 year ols has started to low growl at me. Not all the time, just sporadically. Could it be because i am pregnant?
What should i do?

Answer
Dogs react quite strongly to a pregnancy.  Usually they become protective.  With 2 unneutered males, you can only expect trouble as the younger one matures.  There is no good reason to keep intact dogs except for serious breeding programs.  Neutering them both would go a long ways in solving the problem, at least the one that is growling.  You also need to serve notice, you are in charge.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
