Question

Tosco Dog
Hi Labman, I wanted to ask you until what age does a GSD (german line) stop growing? people always tell me different things and i've read also different opinions on this, some people tell that they will stop grow till they're 2 years, some other till 15 months, some other till 9months,etc. I'm quite concerned because I've noticed that my puppy has the same size he was 4 months ago (he's almost 10 months, male, german breedline) the vet told me his weight is good for his age and that he wont stop growing till he's around 18 months but I wanted to show you a pic of my boy to get your comment.

He eats since he was like 4 or 5 months Royal Canin's Maxi Junior twice a day and another vet recommended me some multivitaminic pills for dogs from Bayer. He's also a very healthy dog, and often is exercising (10-15 mins daily)Both vets say he's in a good shape and he'll probably keep growing tall arounf 2 or 3 centimeters more and then he'll become an adult and will grow in muscles and shape.

Is there any possibility that he stays just as he is now? thats what really concerns me cos I want him to be a mid-big size boy. His parents are both GSD german breedline; finally. I've read that the german GSD is quite smaller/shorter than the american GSD, is that correct? and is it possible that mine is a slow growth one?

You dont know how much I will appreciate your comments on this. I'm from Mexico City. Thank you very much.

P.S.- The picture I'm uploading is when he was 9 mo. (bout 3 or 4 weeks ago maybe)

Answer
The reason you are being told so many different things is that dogs very.  Did you measure his height at the shoulder at 6 months and now?  I have actually realized our last 5 puppies grew more in that time because we had another dog in the house to compare them to.  He may grow some more yet, but it will be very slow.  Check the ends of the leg bones.  If they are still much knobbier than an adult's, the growth plates are still open and he is still growing.  If not, do not expect much more growth.
