Question
how much food should i feed my male 7 week old gsd

Answer
A half cup or more each of 3 times a day.  within a month, you may have to increase it to a full cup.  You can also cut back to 2 meals a day after 3 months.  You should be feeding a puppy chow now. Switching to an adult chow for the larger breeds at 4 months, slows growth and helps develop sturdier joints.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Young Shepherds often are light eaters, sometimes refusing to eat enough to keep their ribs completely hidden.  As long as you are feeding a concentrated, meat based food, leave well enough alone.
