Why is he so skiddish

I picked my German Sheperd pup out of a littler of 12 and he was the only one that didn't smother me at my feet. I have had him for about 3 weeks now and I still cna't get him to quit being real skiddish.  He is scared of people and hides a lot and seldom comes when I call him.  I thought it was very weird for the GS breed to be like that.  He also has a little Great Pyranees in him if that makes a difference.  I just wanna know how to make Charlie open up a little.

Hi Jeremy,  Did you meet both parents?  Actually Great Pyrenees & GSDs do have genetic problems with shyness.  So you could be getting it from both breeds.  Don't force him to meet people as that can make it worse.  Just take him to places like parks where there is a lot of activity and just get him accustomed to all the people.  Great Pyrenees take awhile to trust people so he may take time to trust people anyway.  Also, get him started in obedience training so he can start learning his basic commands which will help getting him to come to you.  Hope this helps,
