dog new to new home

Hello,
I just got this new german shepard today. She is 2 years old. I recieved her free from a friend. She is very skidish and jumps when my roomate and I go up to her. When we take her outside she seems to run out the door or in away the door when we try to take her outside. We are trying this out for a week to see if she will warm up to us. What can I do to make this non stressfull for her or to help gain her trust.

German Shepherds are prone to bond very well to their owners and are slow to accept others.  Talk to her a lot in a soft voice.  Do not make eye contact with her and get down on her level.  Keep your hands away from the top of her head.  Rub her butt, and her belly too if she lets you.  Throw balls or other toys for her.  Take her for a walk.  

A week may not be enough.
