New pup

Question
Hello Dawn, I might be answering my own question, but a second opinion cant hurt. We just purchased a pure breed Sheperd, she  is eight weeks old.  The day we picked her out she was a typical pup. Very energetic. We met her around 4 pm, and it was a busy night for her, between intoduction to a new home and  our year old sheltie, she had a exhausting time. The first night she didnt sleep at all (either did we) She was in a crate by herself, and whined and some yelping all night.
She had slept practically all next day. Following night the whining wasnt as bad, but she didnt sleep all that much. Second day sleeping most of day with about a half hour of playtime and consistent walks for potty training every three hours. I believe this is normal behavior, my wife disagrees (believes pup is sick). We do, ofcourse have vet appontment for next week. It is normal behavior for puppy to have some anxiexty begining crate training in new surroundings? We also put her in crate when she passes out during the day. She has no problem being in crate or sleeping when we are present. Does this sound like a typical behavior of a pup just brought home from breeder, who was in kennel type quarters with siblings? Thanks Tom

Answer
Hi Tom, she is acting like a typical puppy who is starting crate training.  She is sleeping all day, which of course isn't helping at night because she is awake.  Just keep doing what your doing and don't give in to the whining.  She is also whining because she her siblings are away from her.  It takes a good couple of weeks for a puppy to acclamate to a new home, so just be patient, you're on the right track, she'll adjust fine.  Hope this helps,

Dawn
