Question

I purchased a dog 2months ago and he weighed 8lbs. The lady I purchased him from said he is a purebred german shepherd. He is now 4 months old weighs 40lbs but was curious about his coat and ears. He has furry paws, a small white spot on his chest and also some longer hairs on his snout and lower jaw. His ears do perk up here and there but do not fully stand up also. I attached a few pics to get your thoughts wether he is purebred or not. Thanks.

Answer
I am only able to see one picture, but I am, afraid his face isn't at all right.  The longer fur,the white, the ears not up yet, are all variations you see in pure Shepherds.  Many inexperienced breeders fail to keep their female away from males after it has been bred.  They will still breed with any male they get a chance to.  Part, or all of a litter can have an unknown father if the breeder is careless.  I remember once complimenting somebody on their fine black Lab.  His mother was a full blooded Golden.  My vet tells me about seeing many strange looking ''purebreds''.

It is possible the lady sold him in good faith not knowing about an additional breeding resulting in at least some mixed breeds.  I have heard mixed reports on DNA testing, http://www.biopetvetlab.com/dnahome.htm http://www.wisdompanel.com/ or http://www.biopetvetlab.com/dnahome.htm http://www.wisdompanel.com/  I am not sure what other breeds he may have, Golden or some of the setters or spaniels.  What does your vet say?
