Question
my Question is that I have heard that if I was to get a male shepperd he will go around and urinate on my furniture and because he is male may try to get on one of my children. Even though you may get him neutered at the earliest age possible they will they still do this. Maybe I should get a female and avoid this problem. Are either or more protective or child friendly.

Answer
Hi Sheri

I personally feel a female makes a better family pet for children and in the home enviorment.  Males yes do pee on the shrubs, trees, etc.  Getting neutered does not stop the hiking of the leg.

However, I have never had a male dog that approached children, nor tried to ride me or anything.  I feel a puppy is all on how they are raised into wonderful adults for pets, companions, or working dogs.  It is better to buy from a reputable breeder that offers good warrantys, good lines, breeding out health problems, bad temperments, etc.

Buying a dog or puppy from just anybody tells me people are trying to save money and not going the proper route in their purchase of.  Before a purchase, check out the credintials of the breeder, the dogs, how they are housed, breeding lines, warranty, health certificates on the pups, visit and ask questions.

Male dogs make wonderful pets, it is what you desire to choose and work with.  I suggest Obedience classes with a new puppy growing up so you learn together.  Proper corrections givin the pup on good and bad behaviors.  Knowing how to and when is the most important thing in raising a male or female.  Some just prefer females for no hiking of the leg, some like the males for the more masculine look.

I have raised many breeds of dogs for many years.  I am going on 65 years young, I have never had in all the males to date one that misbehaved in peeing on furniture, children, etc.  I am always in charge with my dogs, they know i  am their leader, that I tolerate no nonsense, bad behavior, fights, etc.  This is what you must learn also before even buying one.  Buy books to read and learn, videos, visit breeders, trainers, etc.

I wish you the best and if you need further help, let me know.

Kind Regards
