QuestionI have a 5 1/2 month old GSD female that is secuduled to be spayed on 4/24/07 which she will be 6 months old, is this a good time to have her spayed? I read somethings that say 6 months others say at least 8 months.....Please help me, I need to know I am haveing her spayed at the right time!
Thanks for your help!
AnswerI am not sure it is breed specific. Six months has been the conventional wisdom for years. Many people are moving toward 4 months. I put off having my Lab, Holly, until 5 months because at 4 months, there was too much going on in December.
Whoever said 8 months is not a reliable source of information. Females can come into seasons early as 7 months. Once they start, most vets refuse to spay them until it is all over with. Lately I am seeing almost a question a day from somebody stuck with a female in season, the hassle, the risks, etc.. Stick to your schedule, and thank you for being a responsible pet owner. Life will be easier for her, you, and the people at your local shelter.
