dog become very inactive

Question
we have a german shepherd 9 years old here in india.male

he was a very active dog untill 8 weeks back, where we had a a huge boil on his left leg, it was so badly infected that we had the vet come in remove loads of worms. now that he is fully cured of this, he lost a lot of weight during this 8 weeks, he now has become so inactive that he lays on the floor n has his milk & food.

he has lost his alertness & reaction time though he is lazily playful when we actually try to play with him. he looks so less interested, more like he is tired.

please help us bring him back on track.

Answer
Hi Psnuith,  It sounds like the infection really took him down.  Did they put him on antibiotics?  The infection might still be in his system.  He really needs some bloodwork done to see if his white blood cell count is up (this would indicate that the infection has spread somewhere else in the body).  He could have a Staph infection which could literally kill him, so I would definitely get a blood work up done if you can.  Hope this helps,

Dawn
