Question
We adopted a shepherd/retriever mix named Honey 7 weeks ago. She has been vomiting in the AM about every 3-4 days since we got her. She seems healthy otherwise. She does not eat anything other than the food she is given,no weird objects. The vomit appears to be bile. Additionally she seems to lick her privates quite a bit. The vet put her on Adrenal support because she seemed to be a nervous dog. I think that was just due to her recent moves from a shelter to a rescue home and then to us. She is a bit nervous around some strangers though. The vet also put her on pepcid at night. Both did nothing for her. I noticed a sore on her buttocks and the vet expressed her anal glands that were full. Now the vet says she has a urinary tract infection and started her on Clavamox. After 6 days of the antibiotic her appetite has diminished and the licking has increased(including her paws at times), so we were told to stop the antibiotic and watch her for 2 days. I feel like nothing the vet has done has helped her at all. I have slowly been changing over to sensitive stomach food. I have been scouring the web for answers. I hope someone can help.
Thanks

Answer
I wouldn't worry about the diminished appetite right away.  Shepherds tend to be light eaters, and keep themselves on the thin side.  I would give the vet a little more time.  Veterinarian medicine is even less of an exact science than human medicine.  Sometimes the vet must try a couple of things before finding the correct treatment.  Eventually, you may have to try a different vet.

Retrievers tend to be gluttons.  Here is a link to a great guide to maintaining the right body condition for any dog, http://www.puppychow.com/products/popup_body_condition.aspx

Thank you for adopting her.  Real dog lovers are distressed over all the nice dogs that are put to death for lack of good homes.  I do all I can to encourage adoption, and to help those that adopt.  I hope you find a solution to her problems.  I wish I could have given a better answer.  Most of the better people on the net don't try to give medical advice.
