Question
I have a female german sheperd, about 10 months old. She is very loving and obediant, but she is very hyper. She thinks she is a lap dog. Is there anything i can do to calm her down. Also she minds me very well but not my girlfriend. When i have to go out of town she has a hard time with her. What do you think, thanks John.

Answer
Hi John,
Most dogs look up to one person to learn right from wrong, but you can have the friend work with her also.  Leave the house for ten minutes out of sight, tell her to put a leash on her, put in a sit command.  If she listens then she should pet and praise.  Have her feed the dog leave during time for feeding.  Let her do some things that u do so she knows she must obey both.  Have her go alone on walks with the dog, it must be of working lines like mine to be hyper for Shepherds are not really hyper, just more drive to do things.  Give her a brisk daily walk or get bikes and a dog attachment at www.drsfostersmith.com and all go biking, she will love this of course to train her go short trips about the block.
Do things as a threesome and she will accept her and obey her.  Make sure she pets and praises the dog when she does good for her.  She will.

Kind Regards
Patt
