kennel vs. dog/house sitter

Question
We got our 6 month old GS 3 weeks ago - she was neglected and not trained. We were not quite ready for a new dog as we have a vacation planned - however, she was sure ready for us! She is doing well but we are concerned about our pending two week vacation. Unfortunately, taking her with us is not an option. Should we put her in a kennel for the two weeks or minimize further disruption in her life and hire a dog/house sitter? She will be crated more often at home but at least she will be home! Thank you for any insights...

Answer
I think the right sitter would be best.  However, you would need a trustworthy person that is good with dogs.  If you don't have a sitter you have confidence in, better kennel the dog.  Either way, it will be difficult for the dog and a set back to bonding with you.

We are lucky, we are able to take our puppies places pets don't go.  If we don't take the dog, we have a network of other people in the dog guide program we can trust.  We even left a 7 week old with somebody last fall for a weekend.
