Question
Hello I jusr rescues a male german shepard he was skin and bones. He gained 15 pounds in only 2 weeks.
He weighs 33 lbs at 4 1/2 months old.
How big should the dog get?
One vet said 80 to 90 lbs. another ver says 50 to 60 lbs. What do you think.
Please let me know.
Thank you! Eddie

Answer
That is hard to say.  While he is on the small side now, if a lack of food has slowed his growth, he may continue growing much longer.  That isn't all bad.  One of the worst things for a large breed puppy is too much of too rich of a diet leading to fast growth that strains its joints before they have had time to develop.  I would cut back what you are feeding him, 15 pounds in 2 weeks is much too fast.  German Shepherds seldom eat more than they need, sometimes even so little their ribs show a little.  That is OK.  Yours could be an exception.  As it gains more weight, what you need to do is evaluate and adjust the food to maintain good body condition, and feed it an adult chow.  Puppy chow is too rich.  See
