GSD training on a lead

Question
Hi, I have two 5 month old german shepherds. When we bring them walking, one of them is great on a lead. The other one (he's a very excitable, playful little guy), will pull and jump around. It's getting much harder to walk him. He doesn't like it when he's not beside his brother and whoever is walking him.

What is the best way to teach him to walk without pulling, do you think? My partner suggested a choker, but for one I think he is too young, and two, I think it might hurt him! Am I right?????

Thanks!

Answer
Tire him out. Play fetch, run him until his tongue is hanging out and THEN walk him. Make sure you are walking fast enough and far enough. Have him wear a pack when you walk him. You can try a choke chain it'll give you a bit more control if you use it properly. Try walking him alone as well, at least once a day. Do not allow him to pull, tug , forge or lag. Don't look at him, just walk him and when you feel him leaving the heel position give him a stern tug on the lead, put him back where he belongs and continue on without looking at him, your surroundings or anything else. Type alpha boot camp into your webbrowser. That website is a true lifesaver in teaching people how to establish and maintain pack order in their homes.
Get him into a puppy socialization class or beginning obedience. Make SURE he has toys at home that will keep him busy. A tether ball in the yard, soccer balls, toys tied to low hanging limbs (ropes etc) toys with treats stuffed inside and change the toys often! They get bored!
You're doing a great job! Remember to have fun!
