Question
i currently have an 10yr old white german shepard female. She isn't really around other dogs, besides at the groomers. I want to get a small dog. what types of small dogs would live well with my GSD and what problems should i concerned about

Answer
I think it more depends on the individual dog than the breed.  I would try to a male abut 3 years old.  Most older dogs that aren't used to puppies hate them, their sharp little teeth and biting games.  You have the fewer problems with a male and a female then 2 females.

One of the best sources for dogs with a predictable personality is the rescue dogs. These are dogs that lost their home, but were taken into a foster home to be retrained as necessary and placed in the right home for them. You may find a rescue near you starting at http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm The rescues charge a fee to help cover their expenses, but is much less than the price of a puppy plus all its medical expenses the first year.
