Question
I have a 2 1/2 year old female german shephard (not Spayed) she has been raised as a puppy with my male spayed pommeranium, they have always been close but now she keeps attacking him, she is becomming more and more aggressive. Would spaying her calm her down?

Answer
Spaying is no cure all, but would be a big help in this case.  I know of no reason to keep an intact female unless you are going to breed her.  Let me assure you, we have plenty of other females to breed.  Enough that we slaughter millions of dogs every year for lack of homes.

Better leadership on your part would help too.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
