ears and leg

Question
I have a very active 10 month old German Shepherd puppy. He seems to have hurt his right front leg. It is slightly swollen around the joint and he is limping. Is there anything I can do at home to hlep with this?
Also he keeps shaking his head like his ears are bothering him. One ear he seems to be scratching a lot. and sometimes he has it lying flat like it is bothering him.
I have looked and i don't see anything. He is free of flea and ticks.
Is there anything I can do for the ear?

Smell the ear.  If it has a terrible doggy smell, it is infected and he needs to see a vet.  Otherwise, clean it.  Them sell ear cleaning solution, but water with a little vinegar in it will do.  Wet a Q-tip and work it down inside.  Pulling the ear back will help.  Repeat until you aren't getting much wax out.  

sometimes they do manage to hurt themselves.  Bast thing is to just let them rest, perhaps cutting back their walks.
