It's actually not a question but a suggestion. Ever try using a breaking stick to separate 2 fighting dogs? Definitely causes less damage then tugging them apart.

HI ZOE
I USE MACE GIVEN TO ME BY STATE TROOPERS.  INTO THEIR EYES, THEY IMMEDIATELY DROP.  BETTER THAN THE HOSE ALSO.

U CAN ALSO YANK ONES TAIL AND GET SOMEBODY TO YANK THE OTHER, THEN PUT THEM IN A KENNEL, NEVER HAD A DOG FIGHT, JUST A VISION OF WHAT I MIGHT DO IF I EVER HAD ONE WITH MY PACK I RUN DAILY.

THANKS FOR ANOTHER TIP, I WILL PUT THAT ON MY FRONT PAGE OF MY SITE.

I have pit bulls and yanking them apart generally wouldn't do it. It would probably cause more damage than anything. I have never had to break up my dogs in a fight with each other either. They have all been trained to leave it from day one with toys, and aggresive behavour definitely not allowed. I always have a breaking stick though just in case cause they have alot of dog friends and I try to regularly introduce them to new dogs. I rescued an older dog that wouldn't let go of sticks. She wouldn't growl or be agressive but just clamp on and there was no way to get her to leave it. I trained her to by using a breaking stick to pry her off of it and giving the command to leave it. Worked like a charm. Great, simple tools.

Hi
Good tips, but what is a breaking stick?

A breaking stick is a stick about a foot long used to pry open a dogs mouth. You can find pictures of them on pit bull sites. One called Pit Bull Rescue Central has pictures and an explanation on use. Alot of people connect their use or even owning one to people who fight dogs but when you do have a breed that has the capability to be animal aggresive it is actually a very responsible tool to own. I have had pits for 12 years and have never had to use it to break up a fight because I don't allow any aggresive behavoir but it is always good to have. I don't know how good they work on other breeds if they get a bite and won't let go but the original thing I was resoponding to was about a German Shepard and a Staff that kept scrapping.
