Was house broken, but not anymore

Question
Hi, I have a 23mo male German Shepherd, who I thought was housebroken, but up to about 4 months ago, when my family and I went on vacation and he and the other two dogs we have were left home and a neighbor took care of him, he has been messing in the house EVERYDAY.  We go to work, he poops and pees in the house.  We put in him the basement with the other dogs for an hour when we have our daughter physical therapist over, he'll p & p in the basement.  We can't figure out why.  What triggered him to start messing in the house when he was doing so well.  I'm at the end of my rope and I'm ready to get rid of him because I can't handle him doing this everyday.  We now only have one other dog and he doesn't mess in the house. So I was hoping you could shed light on this for me.  Sometimes he is crated when we are at work and he'll mess in his crate.  So we've let him roam and he'll mess in the house.  Any advice would help.

Answer
Sounds like total regression to me. Put him back on a crating schedule. Feed him twice per day, water every three hours. Put him out after he eats and then crate him, let him out every two hours regularly. He just needs to have his potty training reestablished. More than likely whoever took care of him when you were gone did not let him out like they should've and this has become a habit. You can fix it. Just go back to doing what you did when he was a baby. Two weeks or so should take care of it. No feeding after five pm, no water after nine pm. You'll get back to where you were before :)
