Not eating much

Question
Hello
I have a 13 week old GS and he does not appear to be eating as he should, he eats about 2 cups a day.
I am thinking about placing him on a raw diet, I am feeding him Diamonds Premium edge, I have never owned a GS puppy this young, I used to to be a k-9 handler but only worked with dogs around a year in age and never had this problem.
Also just curious about his ears, they stood up at 12 weeks and now they are back down only standing every so often, could he be cutting his teeth this early causing this also he seemed to be a little more tired than usual the past two days, no extra activity though.
Thank you for any insight.

Answer
Hi David,  Ears on GSD's go up & down the 1st 6 months of their lives from the teeth taking the calcium from the ears.  You should have the puppy on a good calcium supplement to help get the ears up.  Also, he should be on a good quality puppy food, not a raw diet.  He needs all the extra calcium he can get.  If he is not eating try adding warm water to the food and soaking it.  The aroma can help entice them to eat and soaking the food also brings out more flavor.  Another thing that lowers food intake & activity level is heat, so if it has been hot where you are lately, that could be effecting him too.  Hope this helps,
