Purebred GSD and coat ID, and advise.

Question
At this time I am in the market for a GSD but am considering possibly helping out with a dog in need from a rescue organization. However, still want a purebred GSD (this will be for pet quality family companion). Since I regard you an expert on the breed, I can think of no better qualified person to give me advise and an answer to my query.

Very simply put, would you say this dog in the link below appears to you to be a purebred GSD, or mixed? If purebred what kind of coat will he have?

Also, any concerns would you have/advise for me considering adopting this dog given what I'm looking for? I noticed the dog has a floppy ear. Given its age at 7 months, I assume it will probably remain floppy?

There are 3 or 4 pics of the dog here:

Thank you.

Answer
I can do no better than a maybe.  Since purebreds vary in appearance, it is very difficult to sort out purebreds and mixes unless it is vwry obvious.

Some Shepherds ears do come up as late as the end of their first year.  Most of the ones I see have them up by 3 months.

I don't think you can go wrong adopting that dog although its ear may never come up.  If it was an owner surrender, its pedigree may be available to assure you it is purebred.
