Question
Hello,

My family was recently given 4 german shepherds that are about 1 yr. old.  We have 1 male and 3 females.  Most of them get along great, however; the male is aggressive with mostly 1 particular female.  What can we do to train the male not to be mean to her?  We have him chained up alone right now until we get a dog run because he doen't know all of our family yet and has been known to bark showing his teeth with his hair sticking up.  So far, he hasn't done that to us.  It just seems as though he needs attention.  Also, is it too late to start obedience training now that they're 1 yr. old?  If not, how should we start?  One of them is pregnant for sure by the way.  Your answers will be helpful.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Kathryn
It is never too late for obedience training and this is what the male especially needs.  He also needs a firm hand, somebody to be his Leader and Boss to train him right from wrong.
I have never heard of male and female fighting, he should not be with females.  You have your hands full with 3 females they are the ones to later fight, this is where the cursor comes in BITCH!
I would not tie the dog up but walk him briskly and tire him out daily.  When u tie a Shepherd up they become nastey and unpredictable.  They become territorial also.
Freedom and is key to a good Shepherd and bonding to this dog is highly important so he learns to listen and walk the line.  Look into his eyes when firmly saying NO.  Get him off the tie and walk him or go to a field and let him run freely.

Kind Regards
Patt
