7 year old female and new male pup

Question
We have a wonderful 7 year old female who is my husbands shadow.  She very lovable, playful and obediant BUT - we just got a new male 6 weeks old who of course is very active and curious.  Our female snarles at him and doesnt want to be bothered most time unless they are outside enjoying themselves.  He was sniffing at her this morning and she lunged at him and almost got him in the face.  Im not sure how to deal with this behavior and am very nervous when they are in the same room.   This is the 2nd puppy our female is learning to deal with as our 15 month old male that we miss terribly got hit by a car and we lost him.   She bit him when he was under in the face and almost took out his eye, but eventually they became very close and she morned him when he left.   Should I just give the new relationship time and keep being paranoid and keep them apart or do you have suggestions to help ease these two together?

Answer
You need desperately to establish pack order in your home with you or your husband as pack leader. Right now your girl believes herself (probably correctly as it sounds) to be the alpha female and pack leader. Type alpha boot camp into your webbrowser to find ways to establish your pack order correctly. If you can grab a copy of Cesar Milan's Be The Pack Leader. It will change your life AND your dog's life.
In the meantime, walk your dog walk your dog walk your dog :) Twice a day every single day rain or shine. Briskly and at heel with you or hubby in complete control. Walk on a loose leash eyes ahead shoulders back do NOT let your dog initiate leaving your side for any reason. Walk her until she's tired. Have her sit for treats, for feeding and before you allow her in, or outside. You will be amazed at the difference.
